Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 5:
Darius Slayton, WR, New York Giants
New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton enters Week 5 as a high-upside, boom-or-bust flex option with an expanded role in the offense. Following the season-ending injury to Malik Nabers, Slayton now steps in as the clear WR2 and primary deep threat for rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart.
While his season statistics are modest, ranking him as the WR78, his 15.0 yards per reception average highlights his ability to make big plays. This week, he faces a Saints defense that has been vulnerable to explosive plays.
New Orleans has allowed the second-most passing touchdowns (9) in the league, making them the 19th-friendliest defense to fantasy wide receivers and creating a perfect opportunity for Slayton to connect on a long score.
Courtland Sutton, WR, Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton has produced well in all but one game this season and faces Cooper DeJean and the Philadelphia Eagles defense this week. The Eagles are a middle-tier unit (15th vs the pass), and Sutton should remain a key target for second-year quarterback Bo Nix.
In four games, they've combined for an 18-266-3 line on 27 targets, with Sutton's only poor outing coming in Week 2 (one catch for six yards).
Sutton should be likely to earn some more targets in the red zone this week, with Philadelphia having a strong run defense. Start Sutton as a high-upside WR2 in what could be a defensive contest.
Chris Godwin, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin put together a quiet season debut during last week's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Godwin made his first appearance since suffering an ugly ankle injury that ended his season mid-way through last season.
The 29-year-old hauled in three of his 10 targets for 26 yards during last week's loss. It wasn't an ideal performance, but Godwin figures to continue seeing a ton of targets. The Bucs are without both Mike Evans (hamstring) and Bucky Irving (foot) for Sunday's Week 5 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
That being said, Godwin figures to once again see a high volume this weekend. Fantasy managers in PPR formats should be able to trust him as a low-end WR2.
A.J. Brown, WR, Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown's fantasy managers were having flashbacks to the first two weeks of the season this past Sunday, as he put up another lackluster stat line despite getting plenty of looks.
It's encouraging to see Brown get at least eight targets in each of his last three outings, but he's still only had one truly productive game. His Week 5 matchup against the Broncos may prove difficult, as Denver allows the seventh-least amount of points to opposing fantasy WRs. Of course, there's star cornerback Patrick Surtain II to worry about as well.
It's getting harder to start Brown each week, but as long as he keeps getting the bulk of targets, he should be in lineups. Consider him a fine WR2 this weekend.
Wan'Dale Robinson, WR, New York Giants
New York Giants wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson is one of the week's most intriguing fantasy plays following the season-ending injury to Malik Nabers.
Now the primary target for rookie QB Jaxson Dart, Robinson, who already ranks as the WR29, will see a significant volume increase from his already impressive 27 targets and 76% snap share. He faces a New Orleans Saints secondary that presents a favorable matchup for a team's top option.
While the Saints are 13th in passing yards allowed, they have been susceptible to scoring, giving up the second-most passing touchdowns (9) in the NFL and ranking 19th against fantasy wide receivers.
Michael Pittman Jr., WR, Indianapolis Colts
Following his limited participation in Thursday's practice, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. (hamstring) reportedly practiced on Friday and will be good to go for Sunday's matchup with the Raiders, according to head coach Shane Steichen.
Steichen said his top receiver, in terms of targets, receptions, and touchdowns, was just a little sore, and the fact that he did not earn an official injury designation would support this claim.
The Raiders have been an above-average fantasy matchup for receivers through four weeks, and with Alec Pierce (concussion) already ruled out and Adonai Mitchell potentially facing playing time discipline for last week's mental error that cost the team a score, Pittman, who has caught a touchdown in three of four games, could be in line for another big day.
