Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 3:
Omarion Hampton, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers running back Omarion Hampton struggled in Monday's 20-9 win against the Las Vegas Raiders. The rookie finished with eight carries for 24 yards and one catch for one yard.
He ran hard, but the Raiders bottled up the run all night. Najee Harris began to see more snaps when the Chargers were trying to ice the game, especially after a botched handoff between Hampton and quarterback Justin Herbert. Week 3 brings a Denver Broncos defense that's stingy in coverage but vulnerable up front.
They allowed 165 rushing yards to Jonathan Taylor last week. The Chargers could lean on the run, giving Hampton another chance. But if he doesn't step up, Harris may eat into his workload moving forward.
TreVeyon Henderson, RB, New England Patriots
New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson rushed for 10 yards on three carries during Sunday's Week 2 win over the Miami Dolphins. He also caught two passes for an additional 30 yards through the air. After an impressive season opener, the rookie took a step back this past weekend as he was out-produced by Rhamondre Stevenson.
In fact, Stevenson led the team in carries, rushing yards, targets, receptions, and receiving yards. Stevenson's big game should allow him to hold onto the lead-back role a little longer, even if it's just on a week-by-week basis.
He should maintain his 65 percent snap share while Henderson accounts for 30 to 35 percent of the offensive snaps. The rookie should continue to be stashed on fantasy benches heading into Week 3 against the Steelers. Meanwhile, Stevenson remains a solid RB2 option for the time being.
Terairoa McMillan, WR, Carolina Panthers
Carolina Panthers rookie first-round wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan continued to operate as the Panthers' WR1 and quarterback Bryce Young's favorite target in Week 2 in a loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Through the first two games, McMillan has seen a consistent workload with nine and 10 targets, respectively. In Week 2, he caught six passes for 100 yards, including a 40-yard reception, but failed to find the end zone.
In comparison to Week 1, Young had more time for longer downfield plays to develop, putting together a great second half. Young completed 35 of 55 passes for a career-high 328 yards and three touchdowns. Although McMillan has yet to score, he has shown he can be trusted in both the quick passing game and on deep shots, and he should continue to thrive in all fantasy formats.
Things won't get easier for McMillan and the Panthers in Week 3, as they take on the Atlanta Falcons, who just held arguably the best wide receiver in football, Justin Jefferson, to three catches for 81 yards. McMillan should continue to be deployed as a WR2 option with serious upside due to his high-volume target share. Let's hope that Young can build on his Week 2 performance, which would bode well for McMillan's outlook moving forward.
Cam Skattebo, RB, New York Giants
The Athletic's Dan Duggan writes that New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo "might have already surpassed Tyrone Tracy Jr." as the team's top RB. Skattebo played seven more snaps and took six more carries than Tracy in the Week 2 overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
The rookie from Arizona State broke a 24-yard run in the fourth quarter and then had a one-yard touchdown plunge, his first career TD. Skattebo finished with 11 carries for 45 yards and the TD, while also catching two passes for 14 yards. Meanwhile, Tracy had only five carries for 15 yards and added four catches for 36 yards. The Giants putting Tracy back in a kickoff-return role also "suggests a reduced offensive role." Tracy returned three kickoffs as a rookie in 2024, but that role ceased when he became the starting RB in Week 5. Skattebo will be a popular waiver-wire target going into Week 3, while it's looking like Tracy might be the 1B option in a backfield committee.
Emeka Egbuka, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said that rookie first-round wide receiver Emeka Egbuka (groin, hip) will be questionable for Week 3 against the visiting New York Jets on Sunday, according to Brianna Dix of Buccaneers.com. The good news is that Egbuka returned to practice on Friday after sitting out on Wednesday and Thursday.
With Chris Godwin (ankle) officially ruled out again, veteran Sterling Shepard would be worth a look as a flex streamer this weekend as the team's WR2 if Egbuka is inactive. If he's cleared to play on Sunday, Egbuka should remain in all starting fantasy lineups after going for eight catches on 13 targets for 96 yards and three touchdowns in the first two games of his NFL career.
Egbuka has been great as the WR2 behind Mike Evans so far, but this could be the last week that he's the clear No. 2 option if Godwin returns in Week 4.
