Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks

Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 17:

Jacory Croskey-Merritt, RB, Washington Commanders

Washington Commanders running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt saw a decreased workload in Week 16 with the return of teammate Chris Rodriguez Jr., but was still productive, scoring his second touchdown in as many games. Croskey-Merritt toted the rock just eight times (25 yards) in Washington's 29-18 loss to the Eagles on Saturday -- ten fewer carries than he sported a week ago in Rodriguez's absence.

However, he still played clearly ahead of Jeremy McNichols in the rushing attack, despite the latter pacing him in snaps 15-11. The 24-year-old may not garner the same upside he did at the beginning of the campaign, but fantasy managers in a pinch can turn to him for low-end flex production when Washington squares off with the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17.

Josh Jacobs, RB, Green Bay Packers

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs (knee, ankle) was listed as limited on Tuesday's estimated injury report ahead of Saturday's matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports. Jacobs suited up for last Saturday's matchup against the Chicago Bears but had his playing time managed, splitting touches and snaps with Emanuel Wilson. Wilson outsnapped Jacobs 33 to 28 and outgained him 82 to 48 on the same number of carries (14).

It's a positive that the 27-year-old workhorse came out of the game without a setback, and he should be expected to handle a bigger workload on Saturday versus the Ravens if everything goes well in practice this week. Jacobs could carry a questionable tag for the third straight week going into Saturday's contest, but he should be able to play through it, barring a setback with his knee in practice on Wednesday.

Rhamondre Stevenson, RB, New England Patriots

New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson has seen his workload fall off in recent weeks, as he's recorded double-digit carries in just one game since Week 8. However, Patriots rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson (head) was forced to leave New England's Week 15 win over the Baltimore Ravens early after suffering a head injury, which may open an opportunity for Stevenson. The 27-year-old had a solid game against Baltimore in Henderson's absence, recording 71 scrimmage yards and a touchdown on 10 touches.

While he's struggled to be efficient as a rusher this season (3.7 yards per carry), Stevenson's numbers look better when his work as a receiver is factored in. He's racked up 693 yards from scrimmage on 140 touches, good for an average of five yards per touch. If Henderson is unable to play in Week 17 against the New York Jets, Stevenson could dominate backfield touches in a favorable matchup. In fantasy leagues where he is available, Stevenson is worth targeting on the waiver wire while Henderson's availability is in question.

Chase Brown, RB, Cincinnati Bengals

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown delivered another great performance in Sunday's 45-21 win over the Miami Dolphins, handling 12 carries for 66 yards and a touchdown while adding four catches (four targets) for 43 yards and two more scores as a receiver. It marked the 25-year-old's first career three-touchdown game and fifth career game with multiple scores.

Brown has been on a tear in the second half of the season, ranking as the RB5 in PPR points per game (20.5) after ranking as the RB33 (10.1) in Weeks 1-7. Brown will maintain his high-end RB1 status for Week 17's matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.

Jordan Mason, RB, Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota Vikings running back Jordan Mason (ankle) is trending in the wrong direction ahead of Thursday's Christmas matchup against the division-rival Detroit Lions. Mason suffered an ankle injury during last week's win over the New York Giants. Mason has been a non-participant during the first two practices of the week. He's considered a long shot to suit up for Week 17 as a result.

The absence of Mason would mean that Aaron Jones Sr. should see more work as the lead back in Minnesota. His fantasy value will certainly be on the rise, while Zavier Scott should see more chances as the backup as well. Fantasy managers should check back for more updates, but they should be prepared for Mason to miss this divisional clash on a short week.
