ANALYSIS: After being used as a reliever for most of his career, the San Diego Padres made Seth Lugo a starter in 2023. He rewarded them by going 8-7 with a 3.57 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 140 strikeouts over 146 1/3 IP. He's ridden that success right on into 2024 with the Kansas City Royals. Over his first three turns through the rotation, the 34-year-old has a 2-0 record with 1.45 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and a 9:5 K:BB over 18 2/3 IP.

With a rash of injuries to pitchers in the last week, especially to top-tier starters, many fantasy managers are likely turning to the waiver wire for help. Lugo should be solid depth for the entirety of the season, but at a minimum he'll be a fine short-term replacement for managers waiting for the likes of Nick Pivetta, Jordan Montgomery, and Kyle Bradish to return to the mound.
