Yoshinobu Yamamoto To Begin Meeting With Teams Next Week
1 year agoHighly coveted Japanese right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto will begin meeting with interested teams via phone and Zoom next week, according to two league sources briefed on his free-agency process. Yamamoto is a target of the New York Yankees, New York Mets and many other clubs after he was posted by the Orix Buffaloes of Nippon Professional Baseball last Monday. He plans to narrow down his list of teams before then returning to the United States to meet with his finalists in person after the winter meetings, which will take place from Dec. 4-7. Yamamoto has until Jan. 4 to sign with a team, but it is not expected to require that much time. He's intrigued with the idea of playing in the Bronx but is also particularly close to Red Sox outfielder Masataka Yoshida and Padres pitcher Yu Darvish.
