Yordanny Monegro Will Have Tommy John surgery
Yordanny Monegro (elbow) was having a strong year in Double-A with the Portland Sea Dogs, but he will need Tommy John surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament. The 22-year-old was ranked as the No. 22 prospect in the Red Sox' farm system by MLB Pipeline and went 2-1 in his nine games (eight starts) for Portland, posting a solid 2.67 ERA, 2.39 FIP, and 49 strikeouts in 33 2/3 innings. Monegro will miss the rest of 2025 and likely all of the 2026 season, which is especially relevant since he would be eligible for the Rule 5 Draft this winter if not placed on the 40-man roster. After his strong start to the season in Portland, he's a name that could get some attention in the Rule 5 Draft if another team is willing to wait out his recovery.
