Yency Almonte Implodes On Friday
Colorado Rockies reliever Yency Almonte was destroyed on Friday night when he allowed six runs (five earned) on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts in a 9-3 loss to the Cardinals. The Rockies held a narrow 3-2 lead heading into the ninth inning before reliever Justin Lawrence blew the save, prompting the game to go to extra-innings. Almonte entered in the 10th inning with the score knotted up at 3-3 and completely melted down. He got two quick outs with a walk wedged between before serving up back-to-back singles and another walk. Harrison Bader then cracked a grand slam, which put the game out of reach for Colorado. The 27-year-old Almonte now owns a hideous 11.52 ERA, 2.04 WHIP, and 23:21 K/BB ratio over 25 innings this year. He'll likely get sent down to minors to work on his stuff.
