Tyler Skaggs 2019 Outlook: Oft-Injured Pitcher Has Potential To Surprise
6 years agoLos Angeles Angels left-hander Tyler Skaggs managed to log a career-high 125 1/3 innings in 2018, another season which was cut short by an injury. Skaggs was placed on the 10-day disabled list at the beginning of August and struggled in his four starts after overcoming the injury, allowing 14 runs in 12 innings of work. That being said, Skaggs was pretty good before the injury, posting a 2.62 ERA over his first 19 starts of the season. The southpaw has excellent strikeout upside, punching out 9.26 batters per nine innings last season and 8.12 per inning over his career. Skaggs is currently RotoBaller's 213th-ranked player in mixed leagues with an ADP of 253. The low price and moderate upside make him worth considering as a back-end fantasy pitcher to fill out a roster. If he manages to stay healthy, he has a good shot at outperforming his draft spot this spring.
