Trey Mancini To Primarily Play First Base
4 years agoBaltimore Orioles general manager Mike Elias said that the team's plan is to have outfielder Trey Mancini primarily play first base going forward due to outfielder Anthony Santander's emergence in right field and the interesting mix of young outfielders the team has both on the 40-man roster and in the minor leagues. Even though Mancini missed all of 2020 while recovering from Stage 3 colon cancer, he's expected to be fully ready for spring training and is attracting trade interest from contending teams like the Braves. The 28-year-old was one of the best hitters in the majors in 2019, slashing .291/.364/.535 with a career-high 35 home runs and 97 RBI in 154 games. It remains to be seen if he can return to that level after a full year off, but he's worth taking a chance on at his current 181 average draft position, especially if he's dealt to a contending team like Atlanta.
