Texans To Hire David Culley As Head Coach
4 years agoThe Houston Texans are working toward a deal for Baltimore Ravens assistant head coach David Culley to become their next head coach. The Texans offered Culley the job on Wednesday night, and he will accept it. The Ravens will receive two third-round compensatory draft picks for the hiring of a minority coach. Although Culley is an offensive-minded coach, Houston offensive coordinator Tim Kelly will remain in his position. The Texans are also targeting Josh McCown and Lovie Smith for spots on the coaching staff. The 65-year-old Culley will become the third active black head coach and the fifth minority head coach. He's a veteran of 27 seasons coaching in the NFL and was Baltimore's assistant head coach/passing coordinator/wide receivers coach the last two years. Culley will look to navigate a Texans organization that is having a tumultuous offseason, as their franchise quarterback, Deshaun Watson, has requested a trade.
