Teams Inquiring About Alex Verdugo
Alex Verdugo at the general manager meetings this week in Scottsdale, Arizona. Verdugo was excellent with the glove and was a finalist for the American League Gold Glove in right field, his offensive numbers dipped to a league-average 100 OPS+ in 2023. He was also benched twice during the year by manager Alex Cora, which added fuel to the discussion around his fit with the team moving forward. Boston also has a surplus of outfielders, mainly left-handed-hitting outfielders, and Verdugo is entering his final year of arbitration and is projected to make $9.2 million in 2024. The 27-year-old finished his fourth year in Beantown with a .264/.324/.421 slash line with a career-high-tying 13 home runs, 37 doubles, five triples, 54 RBI, five stolen bases and 81 runs scored in 142 games.
