T.J. Rivera Unlikely To Be Ready For Opening Day
7 years agoNew York Mets infielder T.J. Rivera had a mostly successful 2017, slashing .290/.330/.430 with five home runs and 27 RBI across 231 plate appearances while looking solid enough with the glove during his sophomore year. Unfortunately his season ended prematurely due to Tommy John surgery on his injured right elbow. While we don’t know much detail on his recovery, it doesn’t sound likely that he’ll be ready for opening day. It’s a shame for Rivera, as there’s a decent chance he would have opened the season as the Mets second basemen. Rivera was never going to light the world on fire, but he’s the type of utilityman every team could use – he’s spend significant tie at first, second, and third base with limited time in the outfield. Rivera is obviously not worth a draft pick in any format.
