Starling Marte Had Surgery On Both Sides Of His Groin
2 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (groin) is a "slow go" at the start of spring training after he had surgery on each side of his groin in the offseason, according to manager Buck Showalter. Marte's legs bothered him for much of last season, but he's hopeful he can be more aggressive on the bases in 2023 once he's fully healthy. He also played through a fractured finger in the postseason last year. The 34-year-old expects to be ready for Opening Day, but the Mets will play it safe with him in camp. Marte's ability to bounce back in the stolen base department will be key for his fantasy value in 2023 after he hit a strong .292/.347/.468 with an .814 OPS, 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 76 runs scored and 18 steals in 118 games last year. If you draft Marte as a top-25 outfielder, make sure to back him up with some depth.
