Spencer Horwitz Takes A Seat On Friday
6 months agoToronto Blue Jays rookie infielder Spencer Horwitz is not in the team's starting lineup on Friday against the Cleveland Guardians. Fellow rookie Orelvis Martinez will make his major-league debut at second base and will bat eighth against Guardians right-hander Carlos Carrasco. Horwitz, the team's No. 16 prospect per MLB Pipeline, made five straight starts after initially being called up but has now found himself on the bench in three of the last seven games. The 26-year-old former 24th-round pick in 2019 out of Radford University has gotten off to a strong start in his first 34 big-league at-bats, hitting .353, although he still has yet to leave the yard and has driven in only three runs. Horwitz is currently in the midst of a four-game hitting streak in which he's gone 5-for-15 with a double and RBI.
