Shaq Leonard 2023 NFL Player Outlook: Can He Come Back To Elite Form?
1 year agoWhen Indianapolis Colts linebacker Shaq Leonard is healthy, he's a menace to opposing offenses. From 2018 to 2021, he forced 16 fumbles and made 11 interceptions. Those 27 turnover-inducing plays are more than any other linebacker during that span. In his last full season, he was at his best. He made 122 combined tackles, four interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and eight pass defenses in 2021. However, his 2022 season was beset by multiple injuries, surgeries, and poor luck. He only played three games, and in only one of those games did he play more than 50% of the team's snaps. He finished the season with just eight tackles, but he still made an interception. He had back surgery in the offseason, and then in his first game back, he suffered a concussion when he collided with his own teammate. He had surgery again after coach Jeff Saturday noticed he was still missing a step and shut him down for the season. Leonard is still on the injury report, and, while he is confident he will be back to form, his status is uncertain.
