1 year agoAs long as San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (elbow) is healthy, he's going to be the team's starting quarterback in 2023 after his impressive rookie season. But ESPN's Adam Schefter said on the Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday that his guess going into training camp is that Sam Darnold has the edge on the backup job over Trey Lance. "There was no trade market for Trey Lance and the 49ers didn't have any trade talks with teams," Schefter said. Reports this offseason have suggested that Lance, a former first-round pick, is completely healthy and has made tons of improvement with his throwing mechanics. The 23-year-old will have to prove it this summer, though, if he wants to be the first guy up in case Purdy goes down with another injury.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
