Saints Cut Brian Johnson, Re-Sign Brett Maher
3 years agoThe New Orleans Saints waived rookie kicker Brian Johnson on Friday and re-signed kicker Brett Maher to their active roster in a corresponding move. Johnson got the boot after missing three straight extra-point tries in the last two games. Two of his missed extra points came last week in the close loss to the Tennessee Titans. Maher spent time with the team in training camp but landed on Injured Reserve with a groin injury and was later released. Regular kicker Wil Lutz (abdomen) had core-muscle surgery and won't return this year. The 31-year-old Maher will take over as the starting kicker in Week 11 against the Philadelphia Eagles, but fantasy managers will want to avoid him. He has only been successful on 74.2% of his career field-goal tries in 29 career games.
