Rowdy Tellez On The Roster Bubble
5 years agoToronto Blue Jays first baseman Rowdy Tellez appears to be facing an uphill battle to make the roster out of spring training. Toronto must pick three of infielder Joe Panik, outfielders Derek Fisher and Anthony Alford and Tellez. Fisher and Alford are out of minor league options and Panik is almost a sure bet to make the roster. Tellez still has options remaining and seems likely to join Triple-A Buffalo to begin the year. Infielder/outfielder Brandon Drury seems likely to make the club as well. Tellez, 25 next month, hit just .227/.293/.449 with 21 home runs and 54 RBI in 111 games in 2019. He swings and misses too much to be a reliable batting average contributor and probably would only face right-handed pitchers if he makes the final roster.
