Ronny Mauricio In The Two-Hole Tuesday
1 year agoNew York Mets rookie infielder Ronny Mauricio is playing third base and batting second in the lineup on Tuesday against the Miami Marlins and left-hander Braxton Garrett. Mauricio continues to hold down the hot corner with Bret Batty (groin) missing his fifth straight game due to a left-groin strain. The Mets' No. 4 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, will be playing in just his 15th major-league game on Tuesday, but he's held his own so far. In 55 trips to the plate, Mauricio has gone 16-for-52 (.308) with a home run, two doubles, seven RBI, six stolen bases and three runs scored. The 22-year-old Dominican switch-hitter is extremely athletic and can play pretty much all over the diamond. Based on his strong showing after being a September call-up this year, he could force his way onto the Opening Day roster in 2024.
