Ronny Mauricio Could Be Promoted Soon
2 years agoNew York Mets infielder Ronny Mauricio (ankle) could be headed to the major league roster, but will first undergo an MRI on his ankle. He had an on-field collision at Triple-A Syracuse on June 4, and his ankle is still sore. Mauricio has appeared in games since the collision but will undergo further evaluation to determine the severity of his ankle injury. The 22-year-old could be promoted if the MRI comes back clean and he is no longer experiencing ankle soreness. In theory, this would make sense, considering the Mets just lost Pete Alonso (wrist) to injury. Mauricio would have a path to everyday at-bats in New York, and the Mets could use the boost in offense. Mauricio is hitting .320/.360/.524 with eight home runs and 35 RBI in 60 games in Triple-A this season. His bat looks ready for the MLB level, but we'll see if the Mets feel he's ready. Right now, this is just a rumor as the Mets look to fill the void left by Alonso. Although, it should be soon that Mauricio gets the call to the big leagues.
