River Ryan Called Up To Make MLB Debut
5 months agoThe Los Angeles Dodgers recalled right-handed pitching prospect River Ryan from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Monday in order for him to start against the visiting division-rival San Francisco Giants in what will be his major-league debut. Ryan, who is listed as the team's No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline, missed the first two months in the minors with right-shoulder fatigue but returned to post a strong 2.76 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 19 strikeouts and six walks in five starts in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. It remains to be seen if this is just a spot start for the 25-year-old, who has made just seven total starts in his minor-league career at the Triple-A level. Ryan has high-end upside in the long term in LA if he sticks as a starter, but there's also a chance his future could come as a high-leverage reliever.
