Red Sox To Be Cautious With Chris Sale
4 years agoThe Boston Red Sox are expected to play it safe with starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) as he makes his way back from Tommy John surgery this year. Sale remains under contract for four more years and has an option for the 2025 season, so Boston won't rush their left-handed ace back. He had surgery on March 30, with pitchers usually requiring 12 to 15 months to recover. There was speculation late last year that Sale would return within that timeline, but he's about to start Year 2 of his five-year, $145 million deal. The 31-year-old has done some long tossing and his rehab has gone smoothly to this point, but fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting a sooner-than-expected return from the southpaw in 2021. Don't be surprised if the BoSox save him for sometime in the second half of the season.
