Red Sox Sign Jonathan Lucroy
5 years agoThe Boston Red Sox signed catcher Jonathan Lucroy to a minor league deal on Wednesday. Lucroy has a chance to make the team's Opening Day roster and will compete with Kevin Plawecki to be Christian Vazquez's backup. Lucroy, 33 years old, has a career .274/.335/.416 slash line in 10 major league seasons, but he hit just .232/.305/.355 with eight home runs and 36 RBI in 101 games with the Angels and Cubs in 2019. It's been a few seasons since Lucroy was a force with the bat, and he won't be relevant in mixed or two-catcher leagues unless he wins the backup job and Vazquez misses time with injury.
