Pirates Make Extension Offer To Ke'Bryan Hayes
4 years agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates made a contract-extension offer to young third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes, but there has been no traction. Hayes posted a 1.124 OPS last year and has a 1.259 OPS so far this spring. The third base prospect has perennial All-Star ability at the hot corner, but early deals for top prospects are becoming more rare in Major League Baseball. Hayes has six years of club control already and won't become arbitration-eligible until after the 2023 season. He slashed .376/.442/.682 with five home runs and 11 RBI in 24 games after he was promoted in September of last year. Ranked as MLB Pipeline's ninth-best prospect entering 2021, Hayes is considered the favorite for National League Rookie of the Year on a rebuilding Pirates club.
