Phillies Discussing Jay Bruce
6 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies are in discussions to acquire first baseman/outfielder Jay Bruce from the Seattle Mariners on Saturday, although the talks aren't far enough along that a deal is imminent, according to a source. With Rhys Hoskins at first base and Bryce Harper, Andrew McCutchen and Scott Kingery patrolling the outfield, Bruce would mostly be a fourth outfielder/bench bat if he landed in Philly. However, McCutchen could always play center field, which would allow Bruce to play a corner outfield spot and Kingery to platoon with Maikel Franco at the hot corner. Bruce is hitting just .212 (35-for-165) but does have 14 homers and 28 RBI. With a low .210 BABIP, his average should go up, and a move to Philly would make him slightly more attractive in fantasy as long as he sees consistent at-bats. Stay tuned for more on this potential trade.
