Pete Alonso Expected to Return on Monday
Pete Alonso (hand) didn't start Sunday's series finale against the Cincinnati Reds due to a right-hand contusion, but he did enter the game in the seventh inning to continue his consecutive games streak. The Athletic's Tim Britton writes that Alonso is expected to start on Monday in the series opener versus the visiting Los Angeles Angels. The 30-year-old All-Star took over for Mark Vientos late in Sunday's game at first base as a defensive replacement and did not get an a-bat. Alonso is currently leading the league with 26 doubles and is also hitting a strong .275 (102-for-371) with 21 home runs, 77 RBI and 53 runs scored in 100 games played in 2025. However, he's been cold in the month of July to this point, going 9-for-51 (.176) with three homers, two doubles, 12 RBI, nine walks and 13 strikeouts in 15 games.
