Ernie Clement Returns to Action in Series Finale
Ernie Clement (finger, shin) is starting at third base and will hit sixth for Sunday's series finale against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers and right-hander Brandon Woodruff at the Rogers Centre. Clement suffered a hairline fracture in his finger and needed stitches to close a cut on his left shin after a collision at third base earlier this week, but after missing a couple of games, he's back in Toronto's starting nine. Addison Barger, who had been playing third with Clement sidelined a few games, will shift to right field on Sunday and will hit second. The 29-year-old Clement makes a lot of contact and is hitting a respectable .273 (126-for-461) on the year, but he has minimal power (nine home runs) and speed (four stolen bases), leaving him little fantasy upside. Clement has never faced Woodruff in his career.Source: MLB.com
Toronto Blue Jays infielder Daulton Varsho Sitting Again on Sunday
Daulton Varsho (hand) remains out of the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers at the Rogers Centre. Myles Straw will make another start in center field and will bat ninth against Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff. Varsho will miss his second straight game after being hit by a pitch on his right hand in the series opener on Friday night. X-rays on the 29-year-old's hand came back negative, though, so he's considered day-to-day and could be back on the field for Monday's series opener in Cincinnati against the Reds. Varsho was available off the bench in Saturday's loss, but he didn't get into the ballgame. Straw is a light-hitting bench outfielder who should be avoided as a sleeper for DFS lineups on Sunday. He's hitting .267 (63-for-236) with four homers and 11 steals on the year.Source: MLB.com
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder David Morgan Opening, Kyle Hart Serving in Bulk-Relief Role on Sunday
David Morgan will serve as the team's opener for Sunday's series finale against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field, with left-hander Kyler Hart working as the bulk reliever behind Morgan, per Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune. Although neither Morgan nor Hart will be recommended as fantasy streamers in this one, Hart has slightly more appeal because he should go longer in the series finale. Hart has made a total of 15 starts with the Padres and Triple-A El Paso in 2025, although he's worked exclusively as a reliever in the minors since the All-Star break in mid-July. The former 19th-round pick by the Boston Red Sox in 2016 has a 5.29 ERA (5.78 FIP) and 1.21 WHIP with only 21 strikeouts and seven walks in 32 1/3 innings over his nine outings (six starts) with the Friars this year.Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Kevin Acee
San Diego Padres right-handed reliever Cubs Add Carlos Santana
Carlos Santana to an undisclosed one-deal deal on Sunday, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman. Santana is expected to join the Cubs' major-league roster prior to their series opener on Monday against the Atlanta Braves. The 39-year-old heads to the National League after being cut on Thursday by the Cleveland Guardians. The Dominican switch-hitting first baseman slashed .225/.316/.333 with a career-worst .650 OPS, 11 home runs, 52 RBI, 49 runs and seven stolen bases in Cleveland in 116 games before being cut. Michael Busch is the Cubs' unquestioned starter at first base the rest of the way, but Santana will give the team another option off the bench with experience as an upgrade over veteran Justin Turner against right-handed arms.Source: New York Post - Jon Heyman
The Chicago Cubs signed veteran first baseman Sal Stewart Collects Two Hits, Drives in Two on Saturday
Sal Stewart continued to hit on Saturday, going 2-for-5 with two RBI at Triple-A Louisville. The Reds' top-ranked prospect has now reached base safely via hit or walk in 22 consecutive games, now hitting .315 with a 1.023 OPS through 38 games at Triple-A, tallying 10 home runs and four steals with better than average strikeout (15.8 percent) and walk rates (11.5 percent). As hot as he's been, there's hope the 21-year-old would be called up when rosters expand on Monday, however, the team would also need to clear a spot for him as he's not currently on the 40-man roster. Regardless, Stewart should be in Cincinnati next year and should be stashed away in dynasty leagues.Source: MiLB.com
Cincinnati Reds infield prospect Eli Willits Riding Nine-Game Hitting Streak to Start Career
Source: MiLB.com
Washington Nationals shortstop prospect Eli Willits is looking very comfortable at Single-A Fredericksburg since debuting there on Aug. 21. The first-overall selection in this year's Draft has recorded at least one hit in each game he's played there, now riding a nine-game hit streak after a 2-for-4 day at the plate on Saturday. In all, the Nats' top-ranked prospect is 13-for-31 (.419) with a double, five RBI, five runs scored, two steals, and a 5:5 BB:K in those nine games. He looks like a lock to start 2026 at High-A, although there is no need to rush him as he doesn't even turn 18 years old until December. The switch-hitter should grow into more power as he matures, and he is proving himself worthy of a top pick in first-year player drafts for fantasy.Caden Bodine Placed on Injured List at Single-A
Samuel Basallo, who Baltimore recently signed to an eight-year deal, unless Basallo ultimately moves to first base full-time. The Orioles also selected catcher Ike Irish in this year's Draft, so the organization is deep at the position.Source: Roch Kubatko
Baltimore Orioles catching prospect Caden Bodine (finger) was placed on the Single-A Delmarva seven-day injured list on Saturday due to a left-finger contusion. This will basically end the season for the Orioles' 10th-ranked prospect. The 30th overall pick in this year's Draft will finish with 11 games played for the Shorebirds, going 14-for-43 (.326) with one double and a 5:8 BB:K. Bodine has a good hit tool, which should get him to High-A or even Double-A next year, although his path to the majors is currently blocked by Edward Florentino Activated from Injured List at Single-A
Source: MiLB.com - Transactions Page
Pittsburgh Pirates outfield prospect Edward Florentino (hamstring) was activated off the Single-A Bradenton seven-day injured list on Saturday. The Pirates' fifth-ranked prospect had been on the shelf since leaving a game on August 21 with a left hamstring strain. The 6-foot-4 Dominican earned himself a promotion after slashing .347/.442/.642 in the Complex League, and has shown well for the Marauders. The 18-year-old is hitting .270 with a .388 OBP thanks to a strong 13.8 percent walk rate, blasting 10 home runs and stealing 29 bases along the way in just 51 games at that level. Florentino is a prospect for dynasty managers to keep an eye on, with an all-around skillset that could make him an intriguing fantasy asset in the coming years.Jarlin Susana Leaves With Apparent Injury on Saturday
Jarlin Susana (undisclosed) threw a pitch in the second inning and went to a knee in apparent discomfort, then exited with the trainer. No diagnosis has been provided, but he appeared to favor his right arm. The Nats' third-ranked prospect was on the injured list for two months earlier this season with a UCL sprain, and this was his fifth start since he returned from the injured list, during which time he looked as dominant as he had all season. In all, the 6-foot-6 hurler made 11 starts for Double-A Harrisburg, posting a 3.61 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, and recording 79 strikeouts in 47 1/3 innings. If the injury is not long-term, he should push for a debut in the majors next year.Source: Andrew Golden
Washington Nationals pitching prospect Eduardo Rodriguez Tosses Six Scoreless Innings
Eduardo Rodriguez was able to do a nice job on the mound during Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Coming into this game, Rodriguez had been blasted for nine earned runs over his last two starts. He tossed six innings, allowing four hits, four walks, and striking out four batters in the win over the Dodgers on Saturday. The southpaw gave up plenty of base runners, but he was able to work around them. Despite a solid outing, Rodriguez isn't a recommended streaming option against the Boston Red Sox next week.Source: mlb.com
Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Cam Schlittler Records Eight Strikeouts
Cam Schlittler remained excellent on the mound during Saturday's outing against the Chicago White Sox. Coming into this game, Schlittler had thrown back-to-back scoreless outings. He did give up a run in this game, but still looked solid on the mound. Schlittler tossed six innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out eight batters in the no-decision. This is now three straight performances where Schlittler has recorded eight strikeouts. He has been excellent, especially in the month of August. His next scheduled start will come against the Toronto Blue Jays next week. Schlittler deserves to be rostered in most fantasy formats at the moment.Source: mlb.com
New York Yankees starting pitcher Stephen Kolek Pitches Well in Team Debut
Stephen Kolek made his team debut on the mound during Saturday's game against the Detroit Tigers. Kolek finally gets his chance on the mound after being acquired by the Royals at the trade deadline. The Royals decided to give Noah Cameron extra rest, so Kolek made a spot start. He tossed six innings, allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out three batters in the no-decision. It's unclear if Kolek is going to get another turn in the rotation considering this was likely just a spot start. If he does stick in the rotation, Kolek is in line to get the ball against the Minnesota Twins on Friday. He'll offer some low-end streaming appeal if he makes that start.Source: mlb.com
Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Samuel Basallo Hits First Career Homer
Samuel Basallo was able to come away with a big milestone during Saturday's game against the San Francisco Giants. The rookie catcher smacked a solo home run off right-hander Tristan Beck for his first career homer. He finished the game 1-for-4 with a homer, one RBI, and a walk in the win. Basallo is 8-for-39 with one homer and six RBI since being called up in the middle of August. He'll likely remain the primary catcher in Baltimore through the rest of the season. Basallo hasn't been a great fantasy option, but does offer some upside.Source: mlb.com
Baltimore Orioles catcher Daniel Palencia Earns 21st Save
Daniel Palencia was called upon to hold a one-run lead versus the Colorado Rockies on Saturday. Palencia didn't have any issues as he struck out two batters over a scoreless inning to earn his 21st save of the season. The right-hander is in the middle of a breakout campaign. He holds a 2.02 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and a 56/15 K/BB ratio with 21 saves after Saturday's outing. Palencia is 7-of-8 in save chances in August and should be rostered in all fantasy formats where saves matter.Source: mlb.com
