4 weeks agoVancouver Canucks center Elias Lindholm (undisclosed) remains day-to-day with an undisclosed injury, but bench boss Rick Tocchet said he isn't worried about the injury being long term. Lindholm was absent from Wednesday's practice and didn't play in a 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Monday. "I'm not really concerned," Tocchet said. "I think it's just something a little nagging that's getting better every day. That's the way you've got to look at it." There were reports that Lindholm was set to see a specialist, but Tocchet said, "Not to the best of my knowledge," when prompted about the report. Lindholm has 14 goals and 41 points between the Flames and Canucks this season but has just five goals and nine points in 22 games since being dealt to the Canucks.Source: NHL.com

The veteran has missed the past six games due to an illness but skated as part of an optional skate at the Xcel Energy Center on Friday. "He's skating today. Rielly didn't play Thursday night when the Leafs defeated the Washington Capitals by a 5-1 score. He remains listed as day to day. The 30-year-old is in the midst of a fine season, his 11th in the NHL, with seven goals and 51 points across 65 games while logging 23:49 of ice time per game. He has also added 90 hits and 122 blocked shots to his ledger. 4 weeks agoToronto Maple Leafs right winger Mitch Marner (ankle) returned to practice on Friday for the first time since suffering a high-ankle sprain during a 4-1 loss to the Boston Bruins on March 7. Marner finished that game but has since missed the team's past nine contests. He is still expected to miss at least two more games despite his return to the ice Friday. "Mitch looked good today," head coach Sheldon Keefe said on Friday. "In terms of the next step for him I would say it's just further participation in practice, which we won't have another practice again until Tuesday." 4 weeks agoThe Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenseman Simon Benoit to a three-year contract extension that carries a $1.35 million average annual value. The Leafs inked Benoit to a one-year, league-minimum contract prior to this season and the 25-year-old has become a key member of the team's blueline. Not known for his offense, Benoit has just one goal and five points in 54 games this season but has added a hefty 205 hits, 82 blocked shots, and 44 penalty minutes to his ledger in 16:55 of average ice time per game. The Predators visited the desert with a 16-0-2 run and grabbed a 2-0 lead in the game, but the Coyotes battled back with Cooley in a leading role. He tied the score at two and had the team's fourth goal before completing his hat trick with an empty-netter. Cooley became the sixth rookie in franchise history to register a hat trick. The 19-year-old has started to find some form again in March after finishing last month with only three points. He's tallied five goals and two assists across the last seven games. 4 weeks agoCarolina Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen bagged a seventh consecutive victory on Thursday with a 24-save shutout against Detroit in a 4-0 win. Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis led the way at the other end with three-point efforts in the second period. Andersen has looked incredible for the Hurricanes this month, winning all of his seven starts while allowing 1.15 goals with a .957 save percentage. He has improved to 11-1-0 for the year and now boasts two shutouts with a 1.88 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage. 4 weeks agoOttawa Senators goaltender Anton Forsberg posted a shutout on Thursday versus Chicago, backstopping the team to a rare victory in the matchup. The Senators had lost 11 straight games to the Blackhawks since 2016 before finding a way to win on Thursday. Forsberg produced 19 saves, and Claude Giroux and Parker Kelly bagged a pair of quick goals at the start of the game. 2023-24 has been another tough campaign for Ottawa, but Forsberg has managed to put together a winning record, going 13-12-0 across 25 starts with two shutouts. 4 weeks agoMinnesota Wild center Joel Eriksson Ek made a scoring return to the lineup on Thursday against San Jose, helping the team to a vital 3-1 win. After missing five games because of a lower-body injury, Eriksson Ek had an instant impact, putting the Wild 1-0 up in the first period. Matt Boldy and Ryan Hartman completed the job in the third frame. This was goal No. 30 for Eriksson Ek this season. He's had a superb campaign as the top-line center with 61 points across 67 games, and more will be expected from the Swedish pivot as Minnesota continues to battle for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.Source: ESPN
4 weeks agoColorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon saw his fantastic home point streak end on Thursday in a 3-2 shootout loss against the Rangers. The Avalanche superstar had collected at least one point in all 35 home outings this season before the Rangers found a way to neutralize him. Casey Mittelstadt and Devon Toews scored Colorado's goals as MacKinnon came up empty-handed with five shots on goal in 27:53 of action. The 35-game run, during which MacKinnon recorded 29 goals and 77 points, is the second-longest home point streak in NHL history, behind only Wayne Gretzky's 40-game mark from 1988-89. MacKinnon likely won't be too upset by Thursday's events, as he's had a phenomenal run with the Avalanche this season, recording a career-high 123 points (45 goals, 78 assists) in 73 games.Source: ESPN
4 weeks agoPittsburgh Penguins defenseman Ryan Graves suffered an upper-body injury in Thursday's 3-2 victory over Columbus. He was limited to only seven shifts and 5.27 of ice time in the contest. Graves' exit left the Penguins without their leading shot-blocker. The 28-year-old has put his body on the line against 142 shots this season while also recording 72 hits in 70 games with 14 points (three goals, 11 assists). Liljegren came out of the lineup Thursday versus Washington, and it looks like he will be forced to miss multiple games. Mark Giordano was activated from long-term Injured Reserve on Thursday and replaced Liljegren in the lineup. Morgan Rielly (upper body) missed a second consecutive game, meaning the Maple Leafs are left quite thin at the back. 4 weeks agoTampa Bay Lightning right wing Nikita Kucherov set a new career high with his 42nd goal of the season in Wednesday's 3-1 win over Boston. He had the honor of icing the game with an empty-netter. Kucherov's previous best of 41 goals had stood since his MVP campaign in 2018-19. Tampa's star could very well add another Hart Memorial Trophy to his collection this season as he leads the league in scoring with 124 points in 71 games. He had three assists in the opening frame and completed his work with an empty-net goal with 3:17 left to play in regulation. The 23-year-old posted more points on Wednesday than he had managed in his previous nine appearances. However, Pinto has still enjoyed a solid campaign with 25 points (eight goals, 17 assists) in 30 games.Source: ESPN
