No Progress Between Mets And Michael Conforto On Extension
The New York Mets have reportedly not made much progress on their extension talks with outfielder Michael Conforto this spring. Conforto is due to become a free agent after the 2021 season and, much like shortstop Francisco Lindor, both the Mets and Conforto have stated they will not negotiate a contract extension after Opening Day. As a result, the Mets need to get the home-grown slugger locked into a multi-year contract in the next two weeks. If they do not, the Mets run the risk of losing Conforto to free agency once the 2021 season concludes. With a great surrounding cast, Conforto can potentially provide fantasy managers with 30 home runs, and 90-100 RBI, to go with a .270 batting average in 2021. As is the case with Lindor, the newly flush Mets now owned by Steve Cohen would be wise to lock Conforto into a long-term deal in advance of a potentially dominant 2021 campaign.
