Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom scored the second regular season hat trick of his career on Friday night against the New Jersey Devils. The Swedish pivot also chipped in an assist in 21:48 of ice time. Backstrom is one of the more underappreciated stars in the league. He has nine goals, 23 assists, 14 power-play points, and a plus-11 rating in 25 games. Backstrom has scored at least 70 points in each of the past five seasons.
