Nathaniel Lowe 2024 Player Outlook: Oblique Strain Drops Lowe Further Down The First Base Ranks
9 months agoTexas Rangers first baseman, Nathaniel Lowe, is coming off another very productive season, which resulted in a World Series ring for the organization. Lowe slashed .262/.360/.414 with 17 home runs in 724 plate appearances in 2023. He posted a 114 wRC+, marking all five seasons in the MLB with over 100 wRC+. His walk rates are among the best in baseball, ranking in the top 10 percentile in both walk and chase percentages. Hitting in the heart of a potent Rangers' lineup, opposing pitchers often had to attack Lowe as they pitched around other sluggers like Corey Seager and Adolis Garcia. While none of Lowe's batted ball metrics are significantly above average, and his career high in home runs is 27, he has consistently been a plus in the lineup and is one of the better defensive first basemen in the MLB. Heading into 2024, Lowe is expected to remain the everyday first baseman for Texas, thanks to his defense and productivity against left- and right-handed pitching. Based on what we've seen over the start of his career, Lowe should be in for another productive 2024 season. Update: Lowe is expected to be sidelined until mid-April due to a right oblique strain. ATC projects Lowe to slash .270/.354/.434 with 18 home runs, 70 RBI, 72 runs, and two stolen bases over 584 plate appearances. Lowe becomes a risk with the oblique injury and is mainly an option once the top 25 first basemen have been drafted.
