Nathan Eovaldi Receives Qualifying Offer
2 years agoThe Boston Red Sox gave starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi a $19.65 million qualifying offer by the deadline on Thursday. If Eovaldi declines the offer, the Red Sox would receiver draft-pick compensation if he signs with another club. The right-hander earned $17 million in each of the last four seasons, and he could accept the one-year offer in hopes of re-entering free agency next offseason. The 32-year-old dealt with injuries in 2022 and was limited to 20 starts, posting a 3.87 ERA (4.30 FIP), a 1.23 WHIP, 103 strikeouts and 20 walks in 109 1/3 innings. It was a step back from his All-Star campaign in 2021. If Eovaldi declines the offer, the Red Sox could work out a multi-year deal with him at a lower average annual value.
