Calgary Flames goaltender Mike Smith did not start Tuesday in Montreal, as backup David Rittich made his second consecutive start. However, head coach Bill Peters said that the team remains committed to the veteran. "Smitty is going to be our starter. He's going to play the bulk of games, and we have to keep him fresh throughout the year, and there is a plan in place in order to do that," the bench boss said Tuesday. Rittich has played well when having his number called, while Smith has struggled. While the coach might be allaying the fears of his veteran backstop in public, in private Rittich might be making inroads in claiming a larger piece of the pie. Stay tuned.--Daniel Dobish
