Miguel Amaya Expected to Return Next Week
Miguel Amaya (oblique) will come off the 60-day injured list next week to rejoin the team during a series in Toronto against the Blue Jays. Amaya has been out since May 25 with a strained left oblique, but he's nearing his return to the big-league roster and should split playing time behind the dish with Carson Kelly when he's back. In six games on his minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa, the 26-year-old backstop has gone 5-for-16 and no extra-base hits. Amaya was hitting a strong .280/.313/.505 with an .819 OPS, four homers and 25 RBI in 93 at-bats before his injury, but Kelly has 13 long balls in 75 games and should remain the No. 1 catcher in Chicago. It means that Amaya will only be relevant in two-catcher fantasy leagues upon his return.
