Michael Wilson: Faces More Competition In Revamped Wide Receiver Room
7 months agoArizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson caught 565 yards and had three scores on 38 catches across 13 games in his rookie campaign. Wilson missed four games in the middle of the season, battling an array of injuries to his shoulder and neck, which limited his production. However, when on the field, he was typically the number two option in the Arizona passing attack behind tight end Trey McBride. The former third-round pick out of Stanford was given several looks downfield with a 13.7 average yards per target, which placed him in the top 85% of all receivers. Unfortunately, he was only targeted on 14.1% of his routes in his rookie campaign, which may drop even more in his sophomore season. The Cardinals will welcome rookie sensation Marvin Harrison Jr. and free agent signee Zay Jones to their passing offense, which creates an unfortunate log jam for the 24-year-old. Wilson will now, at best, finish as the third option in the passing attack this season, and it makes him difficult to trust every week from a volume standpoint. He may have streaming appeal in shallow leagues, especially with Kyler Murray as his quarterback, but he may only get the opportunity to have a second-year breakout if he moves up in the depth chart.
