Lions Officially Make Dan Campbell Head Coach
4 years agoThe Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints tight ends coach/assistant head coach Dan Campbell officially agreed to terms on a six-year deal to make him the new head coach, according to a source. The Lions had zeroed in on Campbell, but they couldn't make the hire official until the Saints were eliminated from the playoffs. Detroit hasn't made the playoffs since 2016 and also have a new general manager in Brad Holmes, the former Rams college scouting director. The 44-year-old Campbell has been with the Saints for the last five years and was previously with Miami for six seasons, where he began as an offensive coaching intern before becoming the tight ends coach. The Lions fired Matt Patricia in 2020 and went 5-11 to finish in last place in the NFC North for the third straight season.
