Kyle Wright 2019 Outlook: Slotted for 2020, But The Floor Is Too Safe To Ignore in 2019
6 years agoKyle Wright has done nothing to knock the hype that made him one of the top pitching prospects in the 2017 draft. Not only has he moved quickly up the organizational ladder, but Wright is ready to start with the Braves this season by all accounts. The only thing holding him back is a stacked rotation in Atlanta, build with all the other top pitching prospects that grace this system. Wright is excellent versus both sides of the plate with parallel batting lines to both lefties and righties showing the polish that led to him to debut close to a year after being drafted. Wright will never have elite ratios, with eight Ks per nine in the minors, but also, does not walk hitters. What he does do well is keep the ball in the yard, with a 0.49 HR/9 in Double-A, his most extended stop in the minors. Wright is appealing but lacks the track record to project out exactly what his numbers will look like with the Braves. Still, no one doubts that he is one of the safest pitching prospects in the minors. The ceiling is an SP3, but the control and four-pitch mix mean that the production will be worth it for owners. Wright might not be up much this year, but if he is, look for him to be running in from the bullpen. With an ADP of 624, the risk that he does get 80 innings makes the stash worth it.
