This will be the fourth time Justin Thomas tees it up in La Quinta, although, last year's event was his first time playing the current course rotation as his previous start was back in 2015. After firing a third-round, 61, he looked poised to capture his 16th career victory before the improbable win by then-amateur, Nick Dunlap. PGA West has all the feel of a place suited for Thomas' skillset, as he is still one of the premier wedge players in the game (ranked fourth in 2024 in proximity from 50-125 yards: 15'6") and has all the shots off the tee and around the green to make birdie from anywhere. Putting is what defines most of his rounds, and as long as he doesn't bleed strokes away on the greens this week, he should have another chance at hoisting the trophy. --Todd McGill
