John Brebbia 2024 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Could Be The White Sox Closer, Calf Strain Puts Opening Day In Doubt
10 months agoVeteran righty reliever John Brebbia (calf) signed a one-year deal with the Chicago White Sox. Nobody, including Brebbia, expected that he would be in the conversation to close games for the South Siders. He has two career saves but served a variety of bullpen roles for the San Francisco Giants. Brebbia had three wins, a 3.99 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. The 33-year-old also had seven holds in 2023. He features a slider and a four-seam fastball, which were good for a 29.2 K%. The White Sox do not have a clear option here, with potential closer Garrett Crochet being stretched out for the rotation. Brebbia is currently working through a calf strain and is uncertain for Opening Day but is mentioned as the top candidate in a piecemeal bullpen. The ATC projections show 16 saves for him, and his 475 NFBC ADP makes him essentially free in most leagues. If desperate for saves at the end of the draft, consider Brebbia.
