Ji-Man Choi Wins Arbitration Case
4 years agoTampa Bay Rays first baseman Ji-Man Choi won his salary arbitration case against the team and will earn $2.45 million in 2021, according to a source. The Rays had filed at $1.85 million. Choi hit .230 with three home runs, a .741 OPS and 16 RBI in 42 games in the shortened 2020 season. He batted .250 with two long balls, an .837 OPS and four RBI in 18 playoff games. The trade of Nate Lowe should give Choi a clear path to regular playing time at first base in 2021, but the left-handed South Korean slugger hasn't topped the 19 home runs he posted in 2019 in five major league seasons. The 29-year-old has a career slash line of .245/.345/.451 with a .796 OPS and 39 home runs in 849 at-bats. Choi has also hit just .176/.273/.296 in his career against lefties, so he'll mainly be a corner infield option in AL-only leagues once again.
