Jake Merklinger Commits to UConn
Tennessee transfer quarterback Jake Merklinger has committed to UConn, according to On3. The rising redshirt sophomore was a four-star recruit in the class of 2024 and appeared in six total games in two seasons with the Vols. As a third-stringer in 2024 and backup in 2025, Merklinger completed 19 of 33 passing attempts for 221 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. He did not play in meaningful action during his time in Knoxville. As a former blue-chip recruit and SEC transfer, Merklinger will likely get the chance to compete for the starting job under new head coach Jason Candle, who comes over from Toledo after an 81-44 record in 10 seasons with the Rockets.
