J.J. Spaun Looking To Regain Form With His Irons At Truist Championship
After a strong start to the season that included two runner-up finishes, a T3, and only one missed cut, J.J. Spaun has gone cold with his irons over his last two starts (averaging minus-0.51 strokes gained on approach). That isn't a huge drop in performance for such a small sample size, but the fact that he was nearly leading the tour in this stat before the fall off is where the concern lies. The 34-year-old ranks outside the top 70 in every other strokes gained metric, and while he has been accurate hitting into greens (18th in GIR Percentage: 69.77%), it hasn't translated to the tee. Considering everything working against him and the leaky oil situation in his approach game, Spaun is a prime candidate to avoid this week.
