Ian Desmond Keeps Struggling To Get Hits
6 years agoColorado Rockies first baseman Ian Desmond has already hit 17 home runs and stolen nine bases. That's a pretty good season, especially before the All-Star break. However, after just three hits in his last 20 at-bats, he's terrible batting average has fallen to just .217. That's tied for being the 6th worst batting average ever amongst players who have hit 17+ home runs and stolen 9+ bases in the same season. The recent push for more all-or-nothing swings and growth of shifting defenses seems to have relegated Desmond to the same category as 2014's Jay Bruce, 2016's Danny Espinosa, and 2017's Rougned Odor. If owners can stomach the bad batting average, the counting stats will come, but it's a rough batting average that just doesn't look like it's going to get much better.
