Hunter Greene 2024 Player Outlook: Despite Disappointing ‘23, Count On The Ks And Maybe More In ‘24
11 months agoAfter a strong finish to 2022, managers who invested in Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Hunter Greene in 2023 drafts were disappointed with his performance last season. There were flashes of dominance but the former second overall pick was largely inconsistent, plus he missed two months with injury to boot. His final line didn't look good, going 4-7 with a 4.82 ERA (4.25 FIP), 1.42 WHIP, and a HR/FB% of 14.3%. The .339 BABIP didn't help his cause either. What has always been good though are the strikeouts, with a 12.21 K/9 and 20.9% K-BB% in 2023. Looking deeper at some advanced metrics, there is reason for optimism too. Last season, for SP with at least 50 IP, the 6'5" hurler landed in the Top 13 in Pitching+ (107) and Top 5 in Stuff+ (124). He also owned the 17th-best SwStr% (13.4%) and 19th-best Contact% (72.5%). Greene's NFBC ADP and RotoBaller rank are nearly identical, at 135 and 136 respectively, which is 20+ picks after Cole Ragans and Tanner Bibee. Greene offers similar production with more upside at less cost than both. ATC projections have the righty going 9-9 with a 4.19 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 20.8% K-BB%, and 190 K in 150 IP.
