Off the heels of a historic performance last week at Kapalua, where Hideki Matsuyama set the all-time scoring record relative to par (35 under) in PGA Tour history, he'll have a chance to do something almost as improbable this week at the Sony Open: become just the third player in history to win both Hawaiian events in the same year. He was sensational at Kapalua by all measures. The 32-year-old placed inside the top 15 in all strokes-gained metrics and seemed in control of things for much of the entire event. Although with questionable course history other than a win here in 2022, and a bit of a hangover to be expected coming off a win, Matsuyama may be better left on the sidelines this week as the most expensive player on the board.--Todd McGill - RotoBaller
