Guardians Claim Lucas Giolito Off Waivers From Angels
1 year agoThe Cleveland Guardians claimed right-hander Lucas Giolito off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday, according to sources. Even though the Guardians are under .500, they are only five games back of the American League Central-leading Minnesota Twins, so they jumped at the chance to secure an established rotation arm. The 29-year-old has gone 7-11 this year with the Chicago White Sox and Angels, posting a 4.45 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 165 strikeouts in 153 2/3 innings over 27 starts. However, he went just 1-5 with a 6.89 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 34 K's in 32 2/3 innings in his six starts with the Halos. Fantasy managers are hoping the move to Cleveland the rest of the way will help him finish strong in the weakest division in baseball by far.
