The New York Giants converted most of the base salary of defensive back Logan Ryan's contract into a signing bonus on Tuesday, creating more salary cap space heading into this season, according to a source. Ryan will spread his signing bonus over the remaining years of his contract for salary cap purposes. The 30-year-old safety played a key role in New York's improved secondary last season, racking up 94 tackles (68 solo), one sack, nine passes defensed, one interception, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 16 games. Perhaps most impressive is that Ryan displayed his versatility by moving around between free safety and slot cornerback. He parlayed that into a three-year deal late last season.
