George Springer Race Down To Two Teams
4 years agoThe race for free-agent outfielder George Springer is down to the New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays, according to a source. The 31-year-old is expected to sign with a team in January and figures to command a long-term deal worth well over $100 million. He's the best outfielder on the free-agent market, is an excellent leadoff hitter and also a solid defender in the outfield. Springer is a three-time All-Star and has a 132 OPS+ since 2016. He hit .265/.359/.540 with an .899 OPS, 14 home runs and 32 RBI in 51 games in the shortened 2020 season. Despite the Mets' continued interest in Springer, the two sides are still a good distance apart in their talks, with Springer asking for well over $150 million. No matter where Springer lands, he'll remain an attractive fantasy outfielder that can contribute across the board.
