3 years agoThe Kansas City Royals recalled third baseman Emmanuel Rivera from Triple-A Omaha on Monday, and he's starting at third base and hitting sixth against Boston Red Sox right-hander Garrett Richards in his major league debut. Third baseman Kelvin Gutierrez, who was hitting .215/.254/.296 this year, was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Rivera, 24, earned the promotion by hitting .282/.337/.593 with 14 long balls, 36 runs scored and 40 RBI in 193 plate appearances at the Triple-A level. Expect Rivera to share time at the hot corner moving forward with Hanser Alberto now that Gutierrez is out of the picture.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
