Eagles Fire Doug Pederson
4 years agoPhiladelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson has been fired, according to a source. Pederson met with ownership again on Monday to discuss his future plans for the team and their offense in particular, but apparently the team's brass didn't like what they were hearing and were ready to move on after Pederson led the team for five seasons, including a Super Bowl win in 2016 over the Patriots. The Eagles went 4-11-1 and benched the struggling Carson Wentz late in the season in favor of rookie Jalen Hurts, who provided a spark down the stretch. A questionable decision to bench Hurts for Nate Sudfeld in the Week 17 regular season finale against Washington also wasn't a good luck for Pederson, and he reportedly wasn't convinced that Hurts was the franchise signal-caller heading into 2021. It's unclear if this move will improve Wentz's chances of sticking with the team moving forward.
